About the Role
Please note this position is based at Mount Whaleback mine site in Newman, Western Australia, operating on a 5/2 roster pattern roster arrangement residential, or FIFO from Perth to Newman on a 5:2/4:3 roster.
Whaleback which is more than five kilometres long and nearly 1.5 kilometres wide is the biggest single-pit open-cut mine in the world. The 7,000 strong population of Newman enjoys well established town facilities including a newly revitalised town centre and sporting facilities. As a gateway to the Karijini national park, you will be in close proximity to spectacular gorges, water courses and stunningly unique landscapes. The residential position will also be provided with subsidised rental accommodation in addition to power and water subsidies.
We currently have a role available for a Classified Plant Inspector to join our Fixed Plant Team. In this role you will provide guidance and direction on Australian and BHP mechanical and structural standards. The Inspector is responsible for holding fitness for service assessment and risk based inspection analysis ensuring any non-conformances are managed and resolved. You will also be the main liaison between the Mine Maintenance team and the Office of the Technical Regulator.
In this role you will:
- Be first and foremost focused on creating a culture of care by being a visible safety leader, engaging, developing and coaching the team
- Facilitate regular reviews with all lifting and pressure related contractors responsible for performing work within the Mine Area
- Perform regular reviews on submitted electronic Certificates of Compliance to ensure regulatory conformance for both BHP and contracting partners
- Conduct in field inspections to ensure lifting and pressure work complies with the relevant regulations
- Ensure all safe work systems, procedures and standards are adhered to through frequent inspection of the workplace
- Provide input on standards and compliance to continually improve operating and maintenance procedures
About You
To be successful in this role, you will have the following skills and attributes:
- Demonstrate the confidence to lead by example, hold yourself and others accountable and coach others in Safety Leadership
- Australian recognised Maintenance or Engineering trade certificate, diploma or degree (essential)
- Must hold an in-service inspector certificate from AICIP,CBIP, or National Board BPVI or API (or ability to obtain)
- Working knowledgte of the WHS Act and WHS Regulations
- Significant experience in statutory compliance preferably within mining and minerals processing
- Exposure to mine maintenance work
- Ability to confidently make decisions relating to your work, or escalate if needed
- Adaptable and responsive to change, as well as learning new information
- Effective working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and experience with Work Management software (1SAP) will be advantageous
- Ability to communicate/operate across multiple levels and disciplines
